Welcome

We want to write and think differently about the challenges and opportunities God is opening through the extraordinary Christian expansion in Africa. We dig deeper beyond the news to analyze, investigate, and amplify untold stories and unsung heroes at the peripheries. Unlike other Catholic news agencies, we go behind the news to inform, challenge, and inspire.

In a world where African voices are often muted, VoiceAfrique Catholic lifts them as a channel for sharing stories of the Church’s growth, vibrant faith, and challenges in Africa. We employ traditional and innovative methods to communicate the Word of God through an authentically African lens.

Our Mission

VoiceAfrique Catholic tells stories of faith and life and shapes a positive and hopeful mindset about the faith and life of God’s people in Africa amidst our current struggles and hopes. Our goal is to show that African Catholicism and African social contexts transcend narratives of wars, poverty, violence, and disorder. They are also not confined to issues that reflect Western narratives of social progress or global Church reforms—conversations that often feel disconnected from the lived realities and daily struggles of our people in Africa. We wish to tell the African story of faith through the lens of young African Catholics working closely with African Church leaders, pastoral and change agents to offer an alternative narrative that captures the dynamic growth and evolving trajectory of Christianity in Africa today and in the years to come.

Who We Are

We are committed African Christians—scholars, pastoral agents, change agents, grassroots workers, and missionary disciples—deeply fascinated by what God is doing in Africa today through the extraordinary expansion of the Christian population. We are particularly captivated by the fact that this growth is most evident among Africa’s young people. As bridge-builders, we are inspired to create a platform that connects African Christians on the continent with their siblings in the diaspora. At the same time, we seek to challenge the jaundiced and often racialized portrayals of Africa in Western media, particularly the narrow interpretations of the exponential growth of Christianity in Africa and its implications for the continent. As post-colonial writers, we are committed to reclaiming Africa’s voice in a media landscape still largely shaped by non-African framings of African history and realities.

We believe that the Christian faith—especially as expressed through the Catholic intellectual tradition, social teaching, spirituality, ethics, and ecological consciousness—can be a transformative force for good. Through this platform, we intend to promote fresh perspectives and nurture new imaginations of the future, grounded in African resources and open to the surprises of the Holy Spirit.

Why We Do What We Do

VoiceAfrique Catholic is your one-stop online news outlet, dedicated to providing in-depth analysis of stories and developments surrounding the extraordinary growth and impact of Catholicism in Africa. We tell the remarkable stories of faith and life on the continent through the lens of young African Christians, who serve as a vital bridge between the Church’s past and its future in Africa.

Our contributors celebrate and critically reflect on the faith of God’s people in Africa, while upholding the highest standards of content quality and analytical rigour. Our ambition is to become the gold standard for objective and creative commentary on Catholicism in Africa—written by Africans, for Africans and the global Church.

We function as an observatory of how African Catholics perceive both the Church and the world, and how they are responding to the challenges and opportunities presented by the continent’s dynamic religious landscape. In doing so, we explore the broader implications of Africa’s Christian growth for the continent and for the world.
